Inhamabne INHAMBANE The city of Inhambane is one of the oldest settlements in southern Africa. In 1534, Portuguese traders established a permanent presence and a trading post there and their influence can be seen in the architecture and layout of the city. There are many old buildings in the city, in varying states of repair. The market, which is well-organised and clean, is well worth a visit, and is good value particularly for locally produced woven straw baskets and mats. Those heading directly for the beaches should drive down the main street of the town. At the roundabout, take the right hand turn (near the Clube Ferroviário) and continue straight out along this road. The road narrows as you leave the town and from here, it is about 21km to the fork for Ponta da Barra and Tofo beach. HOTEL
