CATEMBE

Just accross the Bay of Maputo, you can see Catembe, where there is a long sandy beach that is ideal for a long walk. You can catch the boat from the pier opposite the Ministry of Finance, Av. 10 de Novembro and it takes about 20 minutes to reach the other side. During the 'rush hour', the ferry departs from Maputo on the half hour becoming less frequent during the day. While you're there, why not try out the local restaurants. The last ferry leaves Catembe at 23h45, so don't miss it.

XEFINA

This island is close to the mainland at Costa do Sol and at exceptionally low tides, it is possible to walk across the sands to the island although there is a serious risk of being caught by the returning tide. It is possible to hire a fishing boat nearby to take you there for the day or if you fancy staying overnight, you can arrange for the boatman to return for you the following day. There is water on the island but no other facilities.
