New address code for Maputo
Because only 450 out of an existing 2400 roads in the capital city, Maputo, have been given names, a new identification system has been introduced which entails numbering all roads: those which have names have maintained their names with a number added on to it, those yet to be named have been identified by a number as a short term measure while names are attributed to them.

Road Numbering
The new system of road numbering consists of two parts: the first part of the number represents the geographic area, while the second part, with no greater than three digits (001 - 999), refers to its order. For example in address zone 2, the road numbered 97 is represented as follows: 2.097.

Plot numbering
The numbering of plots, houses or buildings corresponds to the distance in metres from the starting point of the road (point zero) to the main entrance. Even numbers are on the right side while odd numbers are on the left.

after street names

Note should be made that whenever the road length on the map is too short to accommodate the full name and number, it is represented by a number and a geometric shape, which varies according to the nature of the road.
